A typical Venetian Gothic mansion facing the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. Built between 1421 and 1440, it was nicknamed Ca' d'Oro (Golden Palace) because its eaves and cornices were painted gold (now peeling). The right side has a flat wall with square windows, while the left half is an open colonnade with gorgeous decorations made using stone carving techniques. The asymmetrical facade is exceptional for a Venetian residence of the time, but it is unclear whether this is due to interruptions in construction or was part of the original plan.
