...These bracts are colored red, purple, or white, and the fruits (i.e. seeds) ripen within them. Another species, G. haageana Klotzsch, is perennial and has orange flower heads. Seeds are sown in April or May, but it is best to knead the seeds well with sand, with the fluff still attached, before sowing.
