This incident began on July 9, 1888, when a group of residents attacked the house of the Deputy Commissioner's Secretary (a European) in Cilegon, the second administrative center of the Banten province on the western tip of Java, Indonesia, and armed peasants continued to kill Dutch and Indonesian officials in various places, burn official documents related to taxes and other matters, and free prisoners. Due to countermeasures by the colonial government, they did not attack their target, Serang, the capital of Banten, and the revolt was completely put down by July 30, making it a short-lived one.

1888年7月9日，インドネシアのジャワ島西端バンテンBanten地方の第2の行政中心地チレゴンで，副理事官書記(ヨーロッパ人)の家を住民の一隊が襲撃したことに端を発し，武装した農民が各地でオランダ人やインドネシア人の官吏を殺害し，租税などに関する公文書を焼き，囚人を解放する行動を続けた事件。植民地政府の対抗措置のために，目ざすバンテンの中心地セランを攻撃するまでにいたらず，7月30日には完全に鎮圧されてしまう短命のものであった。
