Born June 15, 1914 in Ruminixarat, Buzau, Romania [Died] May 12, 1999. New York, U.S.A. Romanian-born American cartoonist and illustrator. His real name was Saul Jacobson. After studying literature and philosophy at the University of Bucharest, he went to Milan to study architecture, and then came to the U.S. in 1942. He eventually joined the staff of The New Yorker magazine, where he took his first steps as a cartoonist. He later became a star of the American comics world, and expanded his activities to include advertising, architecture, and abstract painting.
