Sugegasa Dance - Sugegasa Dance

Japanese: 菅笠踊 - すげがさおどり
Sugegasa Dance - Sugegasa Dance
Unlike the flower-decorated Hanagasa dance, this is a type of folk dance in which the dancers hold plain sedge hats. The most famous dance is from Taira Village, Higashitonami County, Toyama Prefecture, known as Etchu Gokayama, and is set to the Mugiya-bushi song, which begins with "Mugi ya rapeseed wa yoina." In this dance, young men dressed in black crested kimono, hakama, and white tabi socks line up in a horizontal line, wearing white sashes and carrying swords, and dance briskly in a straight line with the music and singing of shamisen, shakuhachi, kokyu, yotsutake, and shime-daiko drums.
