A device used for graphic processing on a computer. Input devices include light pens, graphic tablets, digitizers, joysticks, and mice, while output devices include graphic displays, graphic printers, and plotters. Graphic displays, the most commonly used type of display for graphic output, display images on a cathode ray tube (CRT). There are two types of display, the random scan type and the raster scan type, depending on how the electron beam is scanned to draw the image. There are also types that use a storage tube, which can retain the displayed image on the tube surface, and types that use an ordinary cathode ray tube, which does not retain an image, and display the graphic information by repeatedly reading it from the memory that has been stored.
