Suo no Naishi - Suo no Naishi

Date of birth and death unknown. A female poet of the mid-Heian period. Her real name was Nakako. She was the daughter of Taira Munenaka, and her mother was Minamoto no Masamune no Onna Komanonashi. She served four courts, Goreizei, Gosanjo, Shirakawa, and Horikawa, and was active in such events as the "Ikuhomon'in Neawase" in 1093 (Kanji 7), the "Tobadono no Senzaiawase" in 1095 (Kaho 2), and the "Horikawain Enshoawase" in 1102 (Kōwa 4). She is said to have died around 1109 (Tennin 2), at about the age of 70. His family anthology includes the "Suo no Naishi-shu," and he has 35 poems in the imperial anthologies including the "Goshuishu." He had an intellectually refined style of poetry and extemporaneous composing.

生没年不詳。平安中期の女流歌人。本名仲子。平棟仲(むねなか)の娘、母は源正職女小馬内侍(こまのないし)。後冷泉(ごれいぜい)、後三条(ごさんじょう)、白河(しらかわ)、堀河(ほりかわ)の4朝に仕え、1093年（寛治7）「郁芳門院根合(いくほうもんいんねあわせ)」、95年（嘉保2）「鳥羽殿前栽合(とばどののせんざいあわせ)」、1102年（康和4）「堀河院艶書合(えんしょあわせ)」などに活躍。09年（天仁2）ごろ、ほぼ70歳で没したらしい。家集に『周防内侍集』があり、『後拾遺集(ごしゅういしゅう)』以下勅撰(ちょくせん)集に35首をとどめる。知的に洗練された詠風で即詠にも優れていた。
