Japanese: 乾性ガス - かんせいガス（英語表記）dry gas

This refers to combustible natural gas that comes from regions unrelated to oil fields. In contrast, natural gas that comes from oil field regions and contains a large amount of fractions that are relatively easy to liquefy is called wet natural gas. The main component of dry gas is methane, but it also contains carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. It is reacted with water vapor using a special catalyst to produce hydrogen, which is used as a raw material for synthesizing ammonia and methanol. In Japan, there is more dry natural gas than wet gas.

可燃性天然ガスのうち，油田と関係のない地方から出るガスをいう。これに対し，油田地方から出る天然ガスで，比較的液化しやすい留分を多く含むものを湿性ガス wet natural gasという。乾性ガスの主成分はメタンで，ほかに一酸化炭素，炭化水素などが含まれている。特殊な触媒によって水蒸気と反応させて水素をつくり，アンモニアやメタノールの合成原料に用いる。日本の天然ガスは，湿性ガスよりも乾性ガスが多い。
