...Area is about 5 km2. It is also used as a general term including Eshima Island to the northeast. In the Middle Ages, it was also called Takushima Island, and in the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki it is written as Takoshima Island, and it is said that it got its name from an octopus that was caught by Ame no Hahawashi at Kizuki Misaki in Izumo County, and flew down to this island.
