A pansori lyricist and researcher in the late Joseon Dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Baekwon. His pen name was Gongri. He was born into a family of officials and served as head of Gochang-hyeon in his youth. He became interested in the study of musical rhythm, and from middle age onwards he dedicated his life to the study and development of pansori, revising and organizing the pansori lyrics that had previously been performed and passed down by singers. His surviving works include the so-called "Song of Chunhyang," "Simcheong (Cheong) Song," "Hoda-ryeong," "Rabbit Song," "Red Cliff Song," and "Yeong-hao Song," which are known as the "Six Songs of Shin Jaehyo." Park Man-sun, Yi Na-chi, and Kim Se-jong, who were known as national singers at the time, were all his students. He also composed several dozen pansori tanka, including "Song of the Peach Blossom" and "Song of the Wide Dae."

朝鮮,李朝後期のパンソリの作詞家,パンソリ研究家。字,百源。号,桐里。吏胥の家に生れ,青年時代に高敞県の戸長をつとめた。音律の研究に興味をもち,中年からは生涯をパンソリの研究と発展に捧げ,それまで唱芸人によって演唱され伝えられてきたパンソリの辞説 (歌詞) を改作,整理した。作品として『春香歌』『沈晴 (清) 歌』『瓠打令』『兎鼈歌』『赤壁歌』『横負歌』のいわゆる「申在孝六曲」などが伝わる。当時国唱と称された朴万順,李捺致,金世宗らはみな門下生であった。また『桃花歌』『広大歌』など数十編のパンソリ短歌を創作した。
