Artificial blood vessels are tubes that serve as substitutes for blood vessels, mainly arteries, and are connected to living blood vessels through surgery. There are tubes made by weaving or knitting synthetic fibers such as Teflon and Tetron, artificial blood vessels made from biomaterials, and composite artificial blood vessels that combine synthetic fibers with collagen. When artificial blood vessels are used in thin arteries or veins with slow blood flow, blood clots often form inside the vessels, causing blockages. Finding a solution to this problem is one issue, but recently artificial blood vessels made of polymeric materials that have the effect of preventing blood clots have been developed.

血管，おもに動脈の代用となる管で，手術によって生体の血管につながれる。テフロン，テトロンなどの合成繊維を織ったり編んだりしてつくった管や，生体材料を用いた人工血管，あるいは合成繊維とコラーゲンを組合せた複合型人工血管などがある。細い動脈や，血液の流れの遅い静脈などに人工血管を用いると，内部に血栓が生じて詰ってしまうことが多く，その解決が一つの課題であるが，最近は高分子材料を用いた，血栓形成防止効果のある人工血管も開発されている。
