Circumpolar star

Among the fixed stars that move around the celestial pole in a diurnal motion, they are those that never sink below the horizon even when they are at their lowest altitude. Therefore, on a clear night, these stars can be seen at any time of the year. In the northern hemisphere, such as Japan, if a small circle is drawn on the celestial sphere with the north celestial pole visible from that point as its center and the angle from the north celestial pole to the true north horizon, all the fixed stars that fall within this circle are circumpolar stars. At the north or south pole on Earth, all the stars visible in the night sky are circumpolar stars.

天の極の周囲を日周運動する恒星のうち、高度がいちばん低くなっても地平線下に沈むことがないものをいう。したがって、晴れた夜空であれば、これらの星は一年中どの時刻にも見ることができる。日本のように地球の北半球では、その地点から見える天の北極を中心として、天の北極から真北の地平線までの角度を半径とする小円を天球上に描いたとき、この中に入る恒星全部が周極星である。地球上の北極点または南極点では、夜空に見える恒星全部が周極星になる。
