Xinhua News Agency

Xinhua News Agency is a state-run news agency of the People's Republic of China. Its official name is Xinhua News Agency. It reports directly to the State Council.

Xinhua News Agency's predecessor, the Red China News Agency, was founded in Ruijin in November 1931 and renamed Xinhua News Agency in Yan'an in January 1937. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, it moved to Beijing and became an official state agency.

As of 2011, it had 33 branches in each province, autonomous region, directly controlled municipality, and special administrative region, as well as bureaus in major large and medium-sized cities. It also had about 140 bureaus and general offices in the People's Liberation Army and around the world, and a press office in Taiwan. It distributes a huge amount of content every day, including text, photos, charts, audio, and video, in eight languages: Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Japanese.

In recent years, in addition to traditional news agency operations, the company has been focusing on a variety of businesses, including television, the Internet, financial information services, multimedia, and databases. It also owns the Internet site "Xinhuanet" and the television station "China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC)," and publishes major newspapers and magazines such as "Qian Jingshi," "China Securities Journal," "Looking Eyes," and "Ban Yue Tan."

中華人民共和国の国営通信社で、正式名称は新華通訊(つうしん)社。英語名称はXinhua News Agency。国務院に直属する。

　新華社の前身「紅色中華通訊社」は、1931年11月に瑞金(ずいきん／ロイチン)で設立され、1937年1月延安(えんあん／イエンアン)で新華通訊社と改名。1949年中華人民共和国成立後、北京(ペキン)に移って正式な国家機関となった。

　2011年時点で、各省、自治区、直轄市、特別行政区に33支社を置き、主要な大中都市に支局等を設置する。また、人民解放軍および世界各地に、約140の支局、総局を配置、台湾にも記者駐在所を置く。中国語、英語、フランス語、ロシア語、スペイン語、アラビア語、ポルトガル語、日本語の8言語を使って、文字、写真、図表、音声、映像などのコンテンツを毎日、大量に配信している。

　近年は、伝統的な通信社業務のほか、テレビ、インターネット、金融情報サービス、マルチメディア、データベースなどの各種事業にも力を入れている。インターネットサイト「新華網」、テレビ局「中国新華電視網（CNC＝China Xinhua News Network Corporation）」などを傘下に収め、『参考消息』、『中国証券報』、『瞭望(りょうぼう)』、『半月談』など有力紙誌も発行する。
