A translation of the German word Pietismus (English: pietism). A Protestant revival movement that arose in Germany from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. Characterized by an emphasis on religious experience and practice and the formation of free congregations (collegia pietatis), it can also be seen as a legacy of German mysticism and a German development of Puritanism. It gave birth to thinkers such as Spener, Franke, Zinzendorf, Wenger, and Ettinger, and had a major influence on German idealism and romanticism. →Related article Schleiermacher | Czech Brotherhood Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
