A private television and radio broadcasting company. Abbreviated as MBS. Headquarters in Kita-ku, Osaka. Established in 1951 as Japan's first private radio broadcasting station, "Shin Nihon Broadcasting," the company changed its name to Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. in 1958 and opened a television station the following year, becoming a dual-use company. In 1975, the company switched its network in the Tokyo/Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area, which it had previously shared with NET (now TV Asahi), to a network with Tokyo Broadcasting System, becoming part of the JNN group. 民間テレビ・ラジオ放送会社。略称MBS。本社,大阪市北区。日本初の民間放送ラジオ局〈新日本放送〉として1951年発足,同58年(株)毎日放送と社名を変更し,翌年テレビ局を開局して兼営社となった。75年にそれまでNET(現,テレビ朝日)と組んでいた東京・京阪神地区のネットワークを東京放送とのネットワークに転換し,JNN系列に属すことになった。放送センターを大阪近郊の千里丘にもち,制作体制は充実している。
