Andong

Japanese: 安東 - あんとう

A city in the northern part of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Located in the basin of the upper reaches of the Nakdong River, it has developed as a base for local administration since ancient times. It is the center of Korean Confucianism, having produced many Confucian scholars including Yi Toegye. Yi Toegye's Dosanseowon Academy remains. At the nearby Hahoe Folk Village, traditional Korean village life is reproduced as it was, and it has become a tourist destination. In 1975, Andong Dam, South Korea's second largest, was completed, and this conservative town with its strong Confucian influence is gradually changing. Population: 170,000 (2005).

韓国，慶尚北道北部の都市。洛東江上流の盆地に位置し，古くから地方行政の拠点として発展した。李退渓をはじめ多くの儒学者を輩出し，朝鮮儒学の中心地。李退渓の陶山書院が残る。近郊の河回（はへ）民俗村には韓国の伝統的な村落生活がそのまま再現され，観光地となってる。1975年，韓国第２の安東ダムが完成，儒教色の強い保守的な町もしだいに変化しつつある。17万人（2005）。
