A type of social phobia. A state in which one is concerned about the gaze of others and is unable to form smooth interpersonal relationships. Normal people also show this tendency, especially during adolescence, but this state usually disappears as they become more socialized. Scopophobia is a symptom seen in a variety of disorders, but a typical example is Morita neurosis, a type of neurosis. This symptom worsens as a person avoids relationships with others despite longing for smooth relationships due to the psychological mechanisms of "wanting to be well-liked by others" and "avoiding exposure."
