A type of chemical laboratory equipment. A deep dish-shaped container with a round bottom and a spout used to heat and evaporate a solvent to concentrate a solution or evaporate it to dryness. They are available in glass, quartz, porcelain, and metal. They come in a variety of sizes, from small ones for trace amounts of samples to large ones with a capacity of several liters, and are used to heat slowly while avoiding boiling and to increase the surface area for evaporation of the liquid.
