Korean author. Born in Hamhung, South Hamgyong Province. Dropped out of Waseda University's Higher Normal School. In 1932, he moved to Jiandao, where he had spent his childhood, and returned to Korea in 1945. During that time, he published the coterie magazine "Hokkyo" with Park Young-jun and Lee Ju-bok, and worked as a reporter for the "Jiandao Ilbo" and "Manchuria Ilbo." He published stories such as "Wongak Village" and "Cattle Record," which were based on the lives of immigrants and rural areas, and compiled them into a collection of stories, "Hokwon," in 1943. He moved to Seoul in 1948, and his work "The Third Human Type," which depicted three types of intellectuals during the Korean War in 1953, attracted attention. His representative work is "North Jiandao," which was published intermittently from 1959 to 1967.

韓国の作家。咸鏡南道咸興出身。早稲田大学高等師範部中退。1932年少年時代をすごした間島に移住し，45年帰国。その間，朴栄濬，李周福らと同人誌《北郷》を発刊，《間島日報》《満鮮日報》の記者をつとめながら，移住民の生活と農村を素材に《円覚村》《牧畜記》などを発表し，43年小説集《北原》にまとめた。48年ソウルに移り，53年朝鮮戦争下の知識人の三つのタイプを描いた《第三人間型》は注目を浴びた。代表作には59年から67年にかけて断続的に発表された《北間島》がある。
