It is also read as "Shunkyoden." It is the name of a palace in the Heian Palace's inner palace. It is located to the east of the south garden of the Shishinden Hall and south of the Gyoden Hall. It is a cypress bark-roofed building that faces west, with eaves on the east and west (or east-west-north) sides of the main building, which is seven bays from north to south and two bays from east to west, and a grand eaves on the east. The main building housed weapons, the eastern eaves housed the Naijudokoro, where the children who served the imperial court were kept, and the western eaves was used for various ceremonies. After the Kamakura period, the Kashikodokoro, which enshrined a sacred mirror, was moved here, and continued to be so until the capital was moved to Tokyo in 1869 (Meiji 2). When Emperor Taisho ascended to the throne, the Shunkoden Hall was constructed to the east of the Shishinden Hall as a place to house the sacred mirror at the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and remains there to this day.
