The Maiden of Sano Chigami
?-? A poet of the Nara period.
She was a lady-in-waiting of Kurabe (the harem lady). She was the wife of Nakatomi no Yakamori. When her husband was exiled to Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) around 739, the 63 poems exchanged between them are included in Volume 15 of the Manyoshu. 23 of these are tanka poems by young ladies, expressing their intense love for Yakamori. She was also known as Sano no Otogami no Musumeko.
[Proverbs, etc.] With you in my heart as I try to cross the mountain path of Ashihiki, I feel no peace. (Manyoshu)

蔵部(くらべ)の女嬬(にょじゅ)(後宮の女官)。中臣宅守(なかとみの-やかもり)の妻。天平(てんぴょう)11年(739)ごろ夫が越前(えちぜん)(福井県)に流されたとき,ふたりでかわした贈答歌が「万葉集」巻15に63首おさめられている。うち23首が娘子の短歌で,宅守へのはげしい思慕がうたわれる。狭野弟上(おとがみの)娘子とも。
