Subarctic cultural area

...It has been thought that their livelihood was based on hunting seals at sea in the winter and caribou inland in the spring and fall, but it has recently been discovered that there are considerable regional differences.
[Subarctic culture area]
This area roughly corresponds to the boreal forest (taiga) and extends from the middle and upper reaches of the Yukon and Kuskokim rivers in the interior of Alaska to Labrador in northeastern Canada. The indigenous people who live in the taiga are Indians who speak Athabascan (Na-Dene) languages, such as the Tanaina, Hare, and Chipewyan, and Indians who speak Algonquian languages, such as the Cree and Naskapi.
