Sāṭi' al‐Ḥusrī
1880‐1968
An Arab nationalist who was active as an educational administrator in Syria and Iraq. He later held important positions in the Arab League. Originally a bureaucrat in the Ottoman government, he became a teacher with an aspiration to reform natural science education and educational administration. He was indirectly involved in the Young Turk movement, but after World War I he moved to Syria and met Faisal I of the Hashemite dynasty, becoming involved in Arab politics. He turned to Arab nationalism, but is known for his advocacy of secularism and individual dignity.
