Anemone japonica (Japanese anemone)
A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family. It is said to be native to China, but has long been cultivated for ornamental purposes in Japan and has also become naturalized in some areas. The stem is erect and sparsely branched, reaching a height of about 70 cm. The leaves are trifoliate and compound, and the leaflets are often further divided into three lobes. The flowers bloom in September and October, are white or reddish purple, 5 to 7 cm in diameter, have green sepals on the outside, and many colored petal-like sepals inside that open flat, resembling chrysanthemums. There are many stamens and pistils.
