Angara [river] - Angara
A river in eastern Siberia, Russia. It originates in Lake Baikal, flows through the taiga, and empties into the Yenisei. It is 1,779 km long and has a drop of 360 m from its source to its mouth. It has many rapids, and reservoirs and large hydroelectric power plants have been built in Irkutsk and Bratsk. The river basin is rich in underground resources such as iron ore. There are regular shipping routes from Irkutsk to Lake Baikal upstream and from Bratsk downstream.
