Chongqing Negotiations

Japanese: 重慶交渉 - じゅうけいこうしょう

Top-level negotiations between the Chinese Communist Party and the Nationalist Government immediately after Japan's surrender. With Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek as representatives, the negotiations took place in the provisional capital of Chongqing from August 29 to October 10, 1945, resulting in the conclusion of the Double Tenth Agreement, in which both sides agreed to avert a civil war and to build a new China through cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. While preparing to attack the CCP, Chiang Kai-shek called for talks to avert a civil war, but contrary to his expectations, Mao Zedong accepted and flew from Yan'an, thus thwarting his intention to shift the responsibility for the civil war to the CCP, and instead giving the CCP political initiative.

日本降伏の直後，中国共産党と国民政府が行ったトップ交渉。毛沢東と蔣介石をそれぞれの代表として，1945年8月29日から10月10日まで臨時首都の重慶で行われ，内戦の回避，国共合作による新中国の建設等を互いに認めあった双十協定が結ばれた。蔣介石が中共攻撃の準備を進めつつ，内戦回避の会談を呼びかけたところ，予想に反して毛沢東が受諾，延安から飛来したため，内戦の責任を中共に転嫁しようとしたおもわくははずれ，逆に中共に政治的主導権を与える結果となった。
