Musk shrew (Japanese musk rat)

Japanese: ジャコウネズミ(麝香鼠) - ジャコウネズミ（英語表記）musk shrew

A small mammal of the Soricidae family in the Insectivore order. It has a pointed snout and a body shape similar to that of a small rat, but is the largest of its kind and has a sturdy build. Its ears are large and almost hairless, and its tail is sparsely haired. Its body color is pale brown. Its body length is 11-15 cm, its tail length 6.5-8 cm, and it weighs around 80 g. It is widely distributed in Egypt, Tanzania, Arabia, India, Southeast Asia, China, New Guinea, etc., and there are wild types and domestic types that live in and around human dwellings like the house mouse.

食虫目トガリネズミ科の小哺乳類。とがった吻（ふん）をもち，体型はジネズミに似るが，トガリネズミ科の動物としてはもっとも大型で，体つきはがっしりしている。耳は大きくほとんど毛が生えていない。尾にはまばらに毛が生えるのみ。体色は淡い茶色。体長11～15cm，尾長6.5～8cm，体重80g前後。エジプト，タンザニア，アラビア，インド，東南アジア，中国，ニューギニアなどに広く分布し，野生型と，イエネズミのように人の住居やその周辺で生活する家住型とがある。
