The first example of a full-scale academy with such characteristics, even if only partially, was the Accademia del Disegno, founded in Florence in 1563 based on Vasari's concept and with Cosimo de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and Michelangelo as president. This was an organization that brought together architects, sculptors, and painters, who had previously been separated into various guilds, with the awareness that they were all bearers of the three fields of plastic arts, with disegno (drawing) as their common foundation.
