A village in Higashikamo District, central Aichi Prefecture. Population 5,336 (1995). Located in the upper reaches of the Tomoe River, a tributary of the Yahagi River, most of the village area is made up of the hilly mountainous region of the Mino-Mikawa Plateau. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, but in recent years, farmers have been taking on more side jobs, and there are many commuters to the neighboring cities of Okazaki and Toyota. The area around the agricultural Habu Dam (Lake Mikawa) upstream of the Tomoe River, and the Mikawa Plateau, with its facilities such as ranches and campsites, have been designated as part of the Aichi Highlands Quasi-National Park.
