Born: October 8, 1925, Moscow [Died] February 25, 1997. Born in Fontenay-aux-Roses, near Paris. A writer and critic born in the Soviet Union. Graduated as a correspondence student from Moscow University. While teaching at Moscow University and other institutions, he was also active as a critic of budding literature. At the same time, from 1959 he secretly published works abroad under the pen name Abram Terts. In 1965, this was discovered and he was sentenced to seven years of hard labor. He was released in 1971 and fled to Paris in 1973, where he became a lecturer at the University of Paris. His talent is evident in his critiques during his time in the Soviet Union, Pasternak's Poetry, On Soviet Realism (1961), and Mysli Vrasplokh (66), both published under his pen name. Other works include Lyubimov (62) and Golos iz khora (73). His work was reevaluated in the Soviet Union in 1989.
