Born: July 29, 1909 in Okayama [Died] July 27, 1968. Tokyo businessman. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1932, he joined Kurashiki Silk (now Kuraray), an affiliate of Kurashiki Spinning, which was run by his family. He became president in 1939, and in 1941 also served as president of Kurashiki Spinning. He gained recognition as a businessman for his original development of the industrialization of vinylon, but he is also known for developing businesses such as the Ohara Agricultural Research Institute, the Ohara Institute of Social Research, Kurashiki Central Hospital, and the Ohara Museum of Art. In 1964, he became chairman of the National Lifestyle Council, where he was the first to emphasize corporate social responsibility and to advocate the principle of producer responsibility for pollution problems. In his private life, he was fascinated by R. Schumann and Van Gogh, and was an educated man who made music a part of his life. He was one of the managers with an entrepreneurial spirit who reinterpreted nature, humans, and science and technology in a comprehensive manner.
