Sita (English spelling)

Japanese: シーター(英語表記)Sītā
Sita (English spelling)
In Sanskrit, it means "ridges." The word has appeared since the Rig Veda, and she is deified as the goddess of good harvests, and in the Grihya Sutra, she is also the wife of Indra. In the epic poem Ramayana and later works, she is said to be the princess of King Janaka of the kingdom of Vidaha and the chaste wife of the hero Rama, but it is believed that she was born from the "ridges" while King Janaka was plowing. In the Ramayana, she is rescued by Rama after suffering hardships such as being raped by the demon Ravana, but her innocence is doubted and she jumps into a fire to prove her chastity. However, Rama finds out that there are still doubts among the people and abandons her. Sita is swallowed up by Mother Earth and leaves this world. Her two remaining sons recite the Ramayana, written by the sage Balmiki. She is often called by names such as Parthibi and Bhumija, which indicate her birth from the earth. Both mean "goddess born from the earth."
