Count Gyuragu - Gyuragu Haku

Japanese: ギユラーグ伯 - ぎゆらーぐはく
Count Gyuragu - Gyuragu Haku

...Even in the 20th century, novels using this technique can be found here and there, such as Montherland's "Les Younges" (1936-39) and in Japan's "(Ruined Friendship)" (1947) by Shiga Naoya. However, from a literary history perspective, this technique became popular in Western European literature from the late 17th century to the mid-19th century. Its precursor is the famous "Les Portugues" (1669), which was long thought to be a collection of genuine letters but is now believed to have been written by the French Count Guillaumes. In the 18th century, the period reached its peak in both quality and quantity with works such as S. Richardson's Pamela (1740), Clarissa Harlowe (1747-48), and T. G. Smollett's Humphrey Clinker (1771) in England, Montesquieu's Persian Letter (1721), Rousseau's New Héloïse (1761), and Laclos's Dangerous Liaisons (1782), and Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther (1774) in Germany. The 19th century masterpieces that marked the end of the fashion included Balzac's Notes on Two Young Wives (1841-42) and Dostoyevsky's The Poor Men (1846).
