Shizuhatayama Kofun

Japanese: 賤機山古墳 - しずはたやまこふん
Shizuhatayama Kofun
It is located at the southern end of Mt. Shizukuyama, which juts out from the north of Shizuoka City toward the center, behind Otoshimiyoya Shrine in the grounds of Asama Shrine. It is a circular tumulus with a diameter of 32m and a height of 6m (restored height of 7m). According to old records, during a heavy rain and wind in the Meiwa era (1764-72), a large tree on the mound fell, creating a gap in the stone chamber, which allowed robbers to dig through it. An academic survey was carried out in March 1949, and the actual condition of a large horizontal stone chamber, 6.8m long, 2.3m wide on average, and 3.8m high, with an opening to the south from the center of the mound, was revealed.
