Sisyphos (English spelling)

Sisyphos (English spelling)
A hero in Greek mythology. He is said to have been the most cunning of all men. The son of Aeolus, he founded Corinth and became its king. However, when Zeus kidnapped Aegina, the daughter of the River Asopus, he told his father, the river god, and captured Thanatos, the god of death, who Zeus sent to punish him. He was forced to release Thanatos and die, but he continued to fool the gods in life, such as deceiving Hades in the underworld and returning to earth to live a long life. Therefore, in the underworld, he was forced to push a rock up a mountain, which rolled back down again every time it reached the top. According to one legend, he was none other than the real father of Odysseus, who was famous for his wisdom, because Odysseus' mother Anticleia had an affair with her before she married Laertes.
