Alps [mountain range] - Alps

Japanese: アルプス[山脈] - アルプス
Alps [mountain range] - Alps
The largest mountain range in Europe, stretching from the Ligurian Sea to the French-Italian border, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia, with an east-west extension of almost 1200 km. The mountain range is divided into the Western Alps (Maritime Alps, Cotienne Alps, Graehe Alps, Mont Blanc Massif, Central and Eastern Pennine Alps), Central Alps (Bernese Alps, Lepontine Alps, Rheo Alps), and Eastern Alps (Dolomite Alps, Carnice Alps, Jurische Alps), with the highest peak being Mont Blanc (4810 m). In terms of geological structure, it is divided into the Western Alps west of Switzerland and the Eastern Alps, and as a whole, the deck structure caused by the recumbent anticline and overturn faults that fall to the north is remarkable, and klippe and windows have developed depending on the degree of erosion. It began as a geosyncline in the Mesozoic era, folded and uplifted from the Cretaceous to the Palaeogene, and further uplifted from the end of the Tertiary to the Quaternary. It is the source of the Rhine, Rhone and Pau river systems, as well as tributaries of the Danube. It has had a major impact on the differences in climate and culture between eastern and western, and northern and southern Europe. Settlements have existed since prehistoric times, and easily accessible trade routes were established early on. Dairy farming, forestry and hydropower are practiced, and the area is rich in resort and tourist destinations. Since HB de Saussure's ascent of Mont Blanc, it has been a mecca for alpinism. →Alpine orogeny →Related topics Italy | Austria | Switzerland | France | Liechtenstein
