[raw]? [Died] King Beopheung 27 (540) The 23rd king of Silla, Korea (reigned 514-540). Son of the previous king, King Jijeong. In the 7th year of King Beopheung's reign (520), he promulgated the Law Code, established official uniforms for all officials, and in the 14th year of his reign, officially recognized Buddhism. In the 19th year of his reign, he annexed Geumgwan-guk, the center of Gaya, to expand the country's influence and establish a foothold for expansion into the Nakdonggang River basin. In the 23rd year of his reign, he established Silla's own era name, "Geonwon," and raised national consciousness both domestically and internationally. In the 8th year of his reign, diplomatic relations were established with China (Liang). He also adopted Chinese-style royal titles to replace the old royal name "Maripgan" from the time of the king.
