Shikoku Pilgrimage, also known as the 88 Temples of the Great Temples. 88 temples in the Shikoku region that are said to be the remains of Kobo Daishi. Pilgrimage to these sacred sites is called Henro. It is said that the Henro began in the early Kamakura period when Emon Saburo, grieving the sudden death of his child, made 21 pilgrimages in both directions, but there is also a theory that it arose from faith in Kobo Daishi and existed before that. It rapidly became popular during the Edo period. The route starts at Ryozenji Temple in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, and goes clockwise along the coast, passing through Kochi and Ehime, before ending at Ookuboji Temple in Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture. → Related topics Cape Ashizuri | Ishite Temple | Kannon Temple | Kongocho Temple | Kongofuku Temple | Thirty-three Temples of the Western Provinces | Shidoji Temple | Pilgrimage | Shiramine | Zentsuji Temple | Chikurin Temple | Tokushima Prefecture | Saigosaki Temple | Muroto-Anan Coast Quasi-National Park | Yashima Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
