naka-no-ma [middle]

〘noun〙① A room in the center of a house. An intermediate room. A room between the entrance, dirt floor, shop, etc. and the inner room. ※Genji (c. 1001-14), Wakana no Shita "The inner room is a place where the emperor should sit . " ② The central part. ※Noh play, Yorimasa (c. 1430), "At Byodo-in, the emperor prepares his throne for a while, then the inner room at Ujibashi Bridge is separated." ③ In theaters of the Edo period, the spectator seats below the facing box. Behind the flat dirt floor. ※Gekijyo Shinwa ( c . 1804-09), Vol. 1 "The inner room is to the east of the hanamichi and is a side of the ayumi. These now also have dirt floors." ④ A part of the Edo Shogunate's Finance Magistrate's Office. Under the control of the Kanjo Kumichi, they were in charge of matters such as small-scale taxation and high-ranking matters within the domain, the appointment, dismissal, salaries, and inheritance of officials from the magistrate's office, as well as religious and firearms inspections.

Naka-ma [middle]

[1] The central area surrounded by two regions. Also, between two regions. *Meisho Hokakusho (c. 1502) Kii Province: "There is a place called Kiseki-ari between Koyasan and Furo." [2] A place name in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. Located in the Onga River basin. From the mid-Meiji period onwards, it rapidly developed as a coal mining town in Chikuho, but in 1966 all the coal mines were closed and it became more of a satellite city of Kitakyushu City. There is the Habu Tomb (100 Arhat Cave). It was incorporated as a city in 1958 .

なか‐の‐ま【中間】

なか‐ま【中間】

[1] 囲まれたまんなかの部分。また、二つの地域のあいだ。※名所方角鈔(1502頃)紀伊国「高野とかふろとの中間に紀関有といふ」[2] 福岡県北部の地名。遠賀川の流域にある。明治中期以後、筑豊の炭鉱町として急速に発展したが、昭和四一年(一九六六)すべての炭鉱が閉山、北九州市の衛星都市としての性格を強めた。垣生(はぶ)古墳(羅漢百穴)がある。昭和三三年(一九五八)市制。
