A bay in northwestern France, bordered by the western coast of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy and the eastern north coast of the Brittany Peninsula up to Blair Island, facing the English Channel. Saint-Malo is at the inner part of the bay, and offshore are the British Channel Islands. The surrounding geology is mainly composed of rocks from the Archean or Palaeozoic Armorican Mountains. The western part has sea cliffs, while the eastern part has many sandy beaches. The tidal range is large, reaching 13 meters, and the Rance tidal power station is located near Saint-Malo. Most of the water is between 10 and 50 meters deep. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
