A town in Sannohe County in the southeastern part of Aomori Prefecture. The town center developed as a post station on the Oshu Kaido road in the middle reaches of the Mabechi River, and is served by the Aoimori Railway and the IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway. In addition to producing rice and vegetables, the town is also famous for its apple and grape cultivation. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Area: 151.79 km2 .
