A three-legged crow that appears in ancient Chinese mythology. In ancient China, the sun was thought to have the form of a crow. It is also said that the crow is not the sun itself, but a bird that carries the sun across the sky. When Xihe, the charioteer of the sun, was transporting the sun from east to west at dawn, the three-legged crow would often run off to eat herbs on the ground and abandon his duties, so he covered the crow's eyes with his hands to control it. The three-legged crow is also thought to be an animal tasked with bringing food to the Queen Mother of the West, and stone paintings from the Han dynasty often depict them serving at her side.
