A translation of the English word radicalism, derived from the Latin radix (root). It generally refers to a position or attitude that fundamentally criticizes the existing political or social system, ideology, and beliefs based on certain principles and rules, and seeks to change them rapidly and completely. It is opposed to "gradualism" and is close to "fundamentalism." It can be found in all times and places, but since the emergence of Marxism as a theory of revolution, and especially since the "May Revolution" (1968), this word has sometimes been used in a positive sense to refer to various movements.
