...all are arboreal birds that feed mainly on fruits and berries. The subfamily Mytilinae is endemic to New Guinea and consists of just three species of the genus Goura , while the subfamily Mytilinae includes just one species, Mytilinae, endemic to Samoa. There are nine species of Japanese wood pigeons distributed in Japan: the Japanese wood pigeon Columba janthina , the Ryukyu wood pigeon C. jouyi , the Ogasawara wood pigeon C. versicolor , the Grey-collared pigeon Streptopelia decaocto (illustration), the Red dove S. tranquebarica , the Oriental turtle dove S. orientalis (illustration), the Oriental green pigeon Chalcophaps indica , the Japanese green pigeon Sphenurus sieboldii , and the Red-streaked green pigeon S. formosae . However, the Ogasawara wood pigeon, endemic to the Ogasawara Islands, and the Ryukyu wood pigeon, endemic to the Ryukyu Islands, are both extinct.
