Sargon [II] - Sargon
Neo-Assyrian king (reigned 721-705 BC). Probably the younger brother of the previous king, Shalmaneser V. He seized the throne and established the Sargonid dynasty. He besieged Samaria, the capital of the Kingdom of Israel (northern), and transferred its inhabitants to Assyria, where he built a new capital, Dur-Sharrukin (Khorsabad).
