Samegawa

A river that flows through the southeastern part of Fukushima Prefecture and empties into the Pacific Ocean. It originates near Tokusa, Samegawa Village, in the southern part of the Abukuma Highlands, and joins the Kumiya River, Ohira River, and Komatsu River while passing through a valley plain about 300 meters wide in the upper reaches. It flows southeast through a gorge from Furudono Town to Tabito, Iwaki City, and empties into Kikutaura at Ueda, Iwaki City. Its river length is about 60 kilometers, and its drainage area is 538 square kilometers. The Gozaisho Highway has long run along the main stream. Takashiba Dam is located downstream.

福島県南東部を流れて太平洋に注ぐ川。阿武隈(あぶくま)高地南部の鮫川村戸草付近に源を発し、上流部で幅300メートルほどの谷底平野を伴いながら組矢(くみや)川、大平川、小松川などをあわせ、古殿(ふるどの)町からいわき市田人(たびと)にかけて峡谷をうがって南東流し、いわき市植田で菊多浦に注ぐ。流路延長約60キロメートル、流域面積538平方キロメートル。本流沿いには古くから御斎所(ございしょ)街道が通じていた。下流部には高柴(たかしば)ダムがある。
