Alkaline soil - Alkaline loach

Japanese: アルカリ土壌 - アルカリどじょう
Alkaline soil - Alkaline loach
A strongly alkaline soil (pH 8.5 or higher) rich in sodium. It is found in many salt-accumulated lowlands in the dry climates of the temperate continental zone, and its soil type is called Solonetz soil. The lower layer is a dark, dense layer of accumulated clay and humus, and when it dries it shrinks and forms a characteristic columnar structure. Many plants cannot grow in this type of soil. To improve the soil, it is desalined by irrigating it heavily. It is not found in Japan.
