…In the pre-classical period, the sonatas of the Italians Domenico Alberti (c. 1710-c. 1740) and Baldassare Galuppi (1706-85), as well as the sonatas and concertos of J.S. Bach's sons, are important. Emanuel left behind about 250 pieces for the harpsichord and clavichord, and wrote two parts of "Essays on the correct way of playing the clavier" (1753, 62), which marked an era in the history of musical performance theory. His brother Christian began using the piano in 1768. …
