The English name of the witch Siren from Greek mythology.

1. A sound-generating device used for alarms and time signals. Also, the sound. It applies the principle that sound is produced when two disks with many small holes are stacked on top of each other and air is blown into one while the other rotates.
2. A salamander of the Sirenidae family in the Caudata order. It is 60-90 cm long, eel-shaped, and has a fin-like tail. Even as an adult, it has a pair of external gills. Its forelimbs are small, and it has no hind limbs. It is found in the southwestern United States.

有尾目サイレン科のサンショウウオ。全長60~90センチ、ウナギ形で、尾部はひれ状。成体になっても一対の外えらがある。前肢は小さく、後肢はない。米国南西部に分布。
