Community college

Japanese: コミュニティ･カレッジ（英語表記）community college

American public two-year colleges. Open to all young people and adults who have graduated from high school, and generally free of charge and open to all applicants, they are also known as open door colleges. Classes are held during the day and at night, and there are three courses: (1) courses for transferring to a four-year university, (2) vocational courses for acquiring various qualifications, and (3) community service courses to meet the learning needs of local residents. Historically, junior colleges developed in the early 20th century, especially in the 1920s, and were popularized, but they expanded dramatically after the Higher Education Act of 1965.

アメリカの公立2年制カレッジ。ハイ･スクールを卒業したすべての青年および成人に開かれ，原則として無償･希望者全員入学制であり，別名オープン･ドア･カレッジとも呼ばれている。授業は昼間･夜間を通して行われ，(1)4年制大学後期課程への編入コース，(2)各種資格取得のための職業教育コース，(3)地域住民の学習要求にこたえる地域サービス･コースの3コースがある。歴史的には，20世紀初頭とくに1920年代に入って発展したジュニア･カレッジが大衆化されたものであり，1965年の高等教育法を契機に飛躍的に拡充された。
